Lucy Schick of Gibsons took top spot in U21 at the Canadian National Enduro Mountain Biking Championships last weekend at Panorama Resort in the East Kootenays.
Enduro mountain biking is a race format where riders complete a 30 to 50 km course but are only timed in downhill stages. The Canadian Championships covered 45 km that included seven timed downhill stages.
Schick won three out of seven stages. Her lead in these was enough for her to edge out the Squamish racer who was fastest on the other four sections.
The top spot has eluded Schick so far this season. Riders from Squamish and Whistler have edged her out of the top spots in the previous four races.
Schick bent her chain in stage 3, and was given a loaner bike by the MEC mechanics for stages 4 and 5 before getting her own repaired bike back for the last two stages.
Schick heads east to Ontario and Quebec after her last day in Grade 12 at Elphinstone Secondary for the final two races of the National Enduro Series and has her fingers crossed that she gets a spot in the Enduro World Series race at Crankworx in Whistler later this summer.
