It was an action packed game between U15 Navy and Red in Sunshine Coast Youth Soccer Association House League action last weekend.
Red came out strong like a well-oiled machine. Paul Fedor and Alleyne Cook both had very strong games. Alex Cartlidge Robbins passed very well and was very close to scoring a number of times.
Navy's newer players were guided by some of the seasoned veterans including Nofa Messner and Ethan Bezaire who made some solid throw-ins and great defensive plays in the attack zone.
Caio Machado got the first goal of the game, while Xavier Benjamin responded with a pair of goals.
Navy's goalie Mikaly Newton did an awesome job of robbing many scorers to keep the game close. Julian Miles used his speed and skill to get past his opponents and scored twice for the Red side as they lost a close one 3-2.
U15 girls
Navy Seals Team B played Red Team C on Wednesday, Sept. 18, with Red winning 6-1.
U7
It turned into a nice day for a game last Saturday.
The co-Ed U7 Red Team E played the co-ed U7 Teal Team A.
Since Teal did not have enough players, players from the Red Team played on their team for the day so no official score was kept.
U8
In the game between the Blacks and Yellows, Blacks picked up a 3-0 win.
While rotating fewer players, the Yellow squad workedtirelessly but failed to get a goal.
Rep league
The Sunshine Coast Spartans are still looking for their first win of the season, after an agonizing 1-0 defeat in North Vancouver on Saturday.
The U18 boys' gold rep team dominated North Van Fury for long periods of the game at William Griffin Turf Field.
Jordan Hoy and Caleb Burnham combined well up front and, in defence, Felix Rankin thwarted the Fury forwards.
After hitting the woodwork twice, Spartans looked poised to take the lead from the penalty spot in the last minute of the first half. Midfielder Ryan Judd stepped up, but saw his firm strike well saved by the Fury keeper.
As the Fury began to press more in the second half, Spartans goalie Josh Diamond was spectacular, bravely denying several goal-bound attempts.
Josh was finally beaten late in the game by a speculative, deflected shot from the edge of the penalty area. He and his teammates deserved better.
The Spartans are back on home turf at Kinnikinnick Field this Saturday, kicking off at 11:30 a.m.
