The fastest weekend of the summer starts tonight (Friday) in downtown Sechelt.

The 10th annual Sleepy Hollow Rod Run, presented by the Coasters Car Club, will feature more than 300 cars.

The Rod Run starts at Hackett Park at approximately 7 p.m. and will go along Ocean Avenue, Cowrie Street and Shorncliffe Avenue to the Sunshine Coast Highway next to the courthouse. Participants will then cruise along the highway, along Redrooffs Road to the Halfmoon Bay firehall where they will turn around, then back along Redrooffs to the highway and Hackett Park. On Saturday, Cowrie Street will turn into a car lovers paradise on with the annual Show 'n' Shine.

More than 400 cars will line both sides of the street.

Another highlight of the day will be the engine blow in front of the Sechelt firehall.

"It's a fundraiser and people can buy tickets and guess how long it will take for the engine to blow," said Steve Holland, president of the Coasters Car Club. "It's always a popular event."

The club will also be selling 50/50 tickets, food vendors as well as the area merchants will provide refreshments, and several automotive vendors will be on hand selling their wares.

Cars will begin to assemble around 7 a.m. Viewing starts anytime after that and will conclude around 3:30 p.m. with the awards ceremony.

On Sunday, the Sun-shine Coast Drag Racing Asso-ciation (SCDRA) takes over to present Tremors on the Tarmac, a full day of drag racing at the Sechelt Airport.

SCDRA president Wayne Taylor expects four alcohol-fueled cars to come up from the U.S. and one nitro-fueled car from the Lower Mainland, Buffy's Toy, a real crowd pleaser three year's ago. Driver Buck Kenney from Coquitlam is expected to be on hand.

Events for the day include street machine, super street, street rods, hot rods, outlaw, exhibition and junior dragsters.

Gates open at 7 a.m. at which time all technical inspections take place. Racing begins at 9 a.m. with preliminary runs with eliminations starting around 1:30 p.m. Bring lots of sunscreen and water. We're in for a great weekend of motorsports on the Sunshine Coast.
