The Sunshine Coast Youth Soccer Association (SCYSA) is a club partner of the Vancouver Whitecaps. One of the partner benefits is the identification of the best local prospects, done through two special training sessions held here on the Coast this past fall.
From those sessions, 14 SCYSA players, five girls and nine boys ranging in age from 11 to 14, were selected to participate in a Whitecaps Prospects MLS Event held on March 9 at the Whitecaps training facility at Simon Fraser University (SFU).
The local players met at SFU in the morning and were put through a fast-paced training session directed by elite level Whitecaps coaches.
In the afternoon, players participated in games against Whitecaps Youth Academy teams under the watchful eye of the Whitecaps coaches. The local players performed well and impressed the Whitecaps coaches with their desire, skill and finish.
The players were tired after four hours on the pitch, but the day was not over. The players were guests of the Whitecaps at the MLS game between Vancouver and Columbus at B.C. Place that afternoon. The Whitecaps won the exciting game which culminated the great day for the best of our local soccer players.
