For the second straight weekend, the Gibsons Junior Jays were shut down offensively, this time falling to the Aldergrove Cubs 3-0 last Sunday at Ryan Dempster Field.
Current University of Calgary pitcher Thomas Scarr got the start for the Jays and pitched the maximum limit of five innings, allowing no runs on three hits.
Mitchell Rainer came into the game in the sixth inning and held the Cubs' bats in check, but was the recipient of a few key errors and a great squeeze bunt play that opened the scoring.
The Jays were given a chance to compete on a Dallas Colpitts cannon throw home from right field, saving at least one run, but again left too many runners stranded on the bases.
Besides the 0-3 start for the Jays, the weekend was a success with the completion of their inaugural raffle draw and barbecue fundraiser event. The Jays would like to thank all who attended the event and especially the people who helped out and donated prizes to the draw.
Next up for the junior men's team is a home game this Sunday at Ryan Dempster Field against the Vancouver Capilanos. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m.
