Elphinstone grad Michelle Jakszuk of Gibsons and the rest of the UBCO Heat women’s volleyball squad are heading into the final weekend of the regular season ranked No. 1 in the nation.
The latest U Sports ranking released Feb. 13 has the Heat in top spot for a second week after back-to-back wins over Thompson Rivers on Feb. 8 and 10 to extend their unbeaten streak to 10.
Jakszuk, in her fifth year with the UBCO squad, led the Heat with a game-high 12 kills along with 13 digs in the Feb. 8 match, and posted eight kills and six digs in the Feb. 10 contest.
The Heat will finish the regular season in Winnipeg for a pair of games against the University of Manitoba Bisons.
They’ll host one of the Canada West quarter-final series Feb. 23 to 25. Their opponent is still to be determined.
