After a successful pilot project this past winter, the Tetrahedron Outdoor Club will be running a full children's jackrabbit cross-country ski program in the winter of 2010 on Dakota Ridge.
This Cross Country Canada program is a fun way for kids to learn basic cross-country ski skills while providing an opportunity to ski and socialize with their parents and friends. There will be spaces available for a total of 40 children, with two age categories, four to six and seven to nine. The classes are on Sundays at 10 a.m. for eight weeks starting Sunday, Jan. 31.
Cost is $50 per child; registration begins later this fall. Contact Natasha at [email protected] or 604-885-2946.
Some funding has been procured for the coaches' training workshops that are essential for the volunteer coaches. The dates are: level one - intro to community coaching, Oct. 24 to 25 (mandatory for all new coaches) and level two - community coaching, Jan. 16 and 17. The cost of these workshops will be covered for those interested in volunteering to coach or assistant coach, who can commit to coming to a minimum of four sessions this season. If you are interested, contact head coach Kevin Rintoul at [email protected] or call 604-740-3938.
The outdoor club is also hoping to have a gear swap this fall and are looking for donations of used gear in good condition. Contact Rintoul if you have items to contribute.
The jackrabbit ski program is a non-profit, volunteer-run initiative, and more volunteers are welcome. The Tetrahedron Outdoor Club is looking for volunteers and interested parents to help organize and implement this program. Next meeting is Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Roberts Creek Elementary School library.
