Hitmen look to keep rolling

Riding a two-game winning streak, the Sunshine Coast Hitmen are hoping to keep rolling Saturday night when they play host to the Powell River Regals.

Riding a two-game winning streak, the Sunshine Coast Hitmen are hoping to keep rolling Saturday night when they play host to the Powell River Regals.

The Hitmen won their last two games against the Regals and Mid Island Blazers before Christmas to even their record at 3-3 in the West Coast Senior Men's League.

Player/coach Brad Wingfield said he is impressed with how the team is starting to gel.

"When you have a mix of guys who have played at different levels of hockey come together, it takes some time to work out the systems and learn to play as a team," Wingfield said. "It was big to beat the Regals in Powell River in December.

"It's real tough to win on the road in this league. I expect that the Regals will come well prepared on Saturday, so I know we'll be in for a tough challenge."

The Hitmen were slated to play the Blazers Saturday, but in order to be eligible for the Coy Cup playoffs at the end of the season, the Hitmen need to get in six games with the Regals, thus the re-scheduled opponent for Saturday.

Wingfield said the game against the Blazers would be made up sometime later in January.

"Guys are starting to get comfortable with each other and we're starting to put systems into place. I really like the way the team is playing and the way they have responded the last few games. Hopefully that continues this Saturday," he said.

Face-off is set for 7 p.m. tomorrow night at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre.
