A thrilling final game for the Sunshine Coast Roller Girls Red Tide Warning ended in a heartbreaking 164-163 loss to the Sea to Sky Sirens from Squamish last Saturday night at the Sunshine Coast Arena in Sechelt.
By the 10-minute mark, Red Tide Warning were dominating play, leading 61-26. Effective blocking and getting lead jam almost every jam showed off the season's hard work and the skill of the home side.
By halftime the score had tightened up to 81-55, but the Roller Girls were still in the lead and dominating the game with their effective blocking, hard hits and fantastic jamming.
Several penalties for both teams occurred early in the second half and several power jams opened the game and the score. With only 10 minutes to go, the score was now a solid 142-111, and the crowd was smelling a win.
With only minutes to go and the Roller Girls still in the lead, two back-to-back penalties and power jams saw the Sirens catch up within 10 points.
The heartbreak occurred when, with only 30 seconds to go and just one last jam, Red Tide Warning took another penalty and it gave the Sirens a power jam for the final go-ahead point.
Overall it was an incredibly exciting game to watch for the fans and a thrilling end to a fantastic season for Red Tide Warning.
