High school riders from Elphinstone and Chatelech had another strong week in North Shore league action.

Elphi had a great race last Wednesday (May 4) in North Vancouver.

All the Elphi riders finished the course, with seven riders finishing in the top 10 of their divisions.

"Our best finish was Grade 8 rider Paul Fromager who placed second in his division," said Elphi coach Mark Goerzen. "Six other riders had personal best finishes including Colwyn Sleep, Curtis Robinson, Kathryn Byer, Brad Adnitt, Nick Garrels and Dylan Mennie. We are looking forward to the last two races of the regular season, followed by the provincial championships in Halfmoon Bay on May 28."

Chat riders also had a stellar week, with both Sean Stanhope and Katherine Short holding on to first place in the juvenile (Grade 9) races.

Jesse Horn, MacKenzie Mitson and Christine Lynch continue to leave an impression in the junior (Grade 10) races with Jesse and Christine holding court in sixth place. Newcomer Spencer Blair was plagued with a flat and finished the race running his bike - a true diehard, according to coach Dave Bates.

In senior boys (Grade 11/12), Matt Cottrell and Chris Bates have a solid hold overall on second and third respectively with some interesting tactical riding being displayed by our riders and their competition at the last race.

"The most interesting race at this point in the season is the battle for top team by grade," said Bates. "The senior boys currently lead in the team standings. Although currently in first (based on the results of your top three or four riders from each series race), a very strong and numerous West Van team continues to chase and cut down the senior boys' lead. This is a mirror of last year. This week's race at Sutherland will be the final and determining race in this battle."

The race in Sutherland was held Wednesday afternoon (past press deadline). The Lower Mainland Championships are set for May 18, followed by the provincial finals set for Halfmoon Bay on May 28.
