Several junior golfers from the Sunshine Coast were in Courtenay last week for the provincial juvenile boys' and girls' championships.
In juvenile girls, Halfmoon Bay's Avery Struck had a solid week, finishing in a tie for seventh with a three-round score of 233 (83, 78, 72) for a +17 finish.
On the boys' side, Keenan Flemming of Sechelt finished in a three-way tie for 47th with a three-round score of 238 (76, 78, 84) for a +22 finish and Gibsons' Cam McAllister finished in a four-way tie for 50th with a three-round score of 240 (77, 82, 81) for a +24 finish.
Myles Killackey of Gibsons also competed but was cut after the first two rounds with a 169 score (87, 82) and +25.
September slam
The Sunshine Coast Roller Girls present more roller derby action next Saturday in Sechelt.
The Sunshine Coast Roller Girls Red Tide Warning play host to the Squamish Roller Derby Sea to Sky Sirens on Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Sunshine Coast Arena. Doors open at 5 p.m. with first whistle at 6.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children six to 10 and seniors, free for children five and under. Tickets are available at the Sechelt Volunteer Centre and online at http://scrgseptemberslam2013.brownpapertickets.com/.

Dempster serves suspension
Gibsons Ryan Dempster returns to the mound this Friday night as the Boston Red Sox open up a weekend series with the Chicago White Sox.
Dempster was suspended for five games for hitting Alex Rodriguez in the Aug. 18 game against the New York Yankees. Dempster did not miss a start during his suspension.
