If you were inside the Gibsons and Area Community Centre arena last Wednesday night, you might have taken a bit of a double take seeing some gold on the ice.
Gibsons' resident Ross Maxwell was decked out head to toe in gold from his hockey helmet right down to his skates, supporting a dream to help out minor hockey.
Maxwell, a resident of the Coast for six years and a passionate hockey player and supporter, got the idea for the golden hockey player during the 2010 Winter Olympics.
While in downtown Vancouver enjoying the Olympic spectacle, Maxwell came across a street performer - a cowgirl decked out head to toe in bronze. She was a popular fixture posing for photos with Olympic spectators. Maxwell thought, why not a golden hockey player?
"I'm doing this to promote hockey and to honour Team Canada for their Olympic hockey win," said Maxwell. "I'm also hoping to create a poster that I can sell to raise money for Timbits Hockey through Tim Hortons across Canada."
Maxwell said he is in preliminary discussions with Tim Hortons head office.
After Canada's hockey win, Maxwell went into Vancouver in his golden attire. He said the response was tremendous.
Last Wednesday's skate, during a scrub hockey session, was used as a photo shoot and video shoot for his project which he's posted on Facebook and YouTube.
