Elphi wrestlers qualify for provincials

Elphinstone wrestlers have garnered much success the past few weeks with several members of the team qualifying for the provincial championships.

On Feb. 15, a team of six attended the North Shore zone championships with five wrestlers qualifying for the provincials. Alex Ratcliff and Alysha Monk both won their weight classes, Jon Hutchinson came second and Nolan O'Reilly and Jon Sun came third and fourth respectively. Percy Stipec, the only Grade 9 wrestler, just failed to qualify, but his wrestling shows weekly improvement and he was not an easy match for any of his opponents, said coach Clint Fox.

"Alex and Alysha's results over the season have put them into the Team B.C. Canada Summer Games development program," said Fox. "Both wrestlers are attending training camps at Simon Fraser University and are competing for positions on the B.C. team, which travels to Austria for a competition in late May. They have an excellent shot at the team."
