Gibsons Special Olympic swimmer Stephanie Rogers is hard at work preparing for the World Games next July in Athens, Greece.

Stephanie will join 108 athletes and 42 coaches and mission staff who will proudly walk into Athens' Kallimarmaro Panathinaikon Stadium to represent Canada at this world event, set for June 25 to July 4, 2011.

Stephanie is one of two B.C. swimmers selected by Special Olympics Canada to be on the Team Canada roster.

It is expected that 7,000 athletes from 185 countries will compete in 22 sports including 10-pin bowling, athletics, power lifting, rhythmic gymnastics, soccer, softball and swimming.

As a member of Team Canada, Stephanie and her coach Marilyn Adams will soon attend a swimming training camp in Toronto. The training will include a program focused on fitness testing, nutrition, mental training, strength and conditioning and team building.

Qualification for the 2011 national team was based on performance at the 2010 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games, which were held earlier this year in London, Ontario.
