From Jan. 26 to 28, Gibsons Legion Branch 109 hosted the dart tournament playoffs for the Zone 4 (Sunshine Coast Legions). With three of the six Legions participating, there were some exciting games with some surprising winners.
Friday night was a blind draw tournament with 19 doubles teams participating. The winners of the event were Ritchie Gibb and Nick Bliss (both from Gibsons) taking first place, Aaron Urquhart (Gibsons) and Dave Illing (Powell River), Bob Mahar and Alex O’Neill (both from Sechelt), Steve Baker (Gibsons) and Kevin Warman (Powell River) taking joint third.
The results for the Saturday and Sunday tournament are:
First place: Doubles – Ritchie Gibb and Nels Jorstad (Gibsons); Singles – Ritchie Gibb (Gibsons); Teams – Ritchie Gibb, Nels Jorstad, Noel Devine and Calum Gibb (Gibsons).
Second place: Doubles – Sean Turner and Steve Baker (Gibsons); Singles – Ron Jones (Powell River); Teams – Sean Turner, Petra Petersen, Claudia Ferris and Steve Baker (Gibsons).
The provincial playoffs will be April 6 to 8 at Branch #006 in Cloverdale. The winners of the provincial tournament will represent B.C. at the Legion Nationals May 4 to 7 in Branch #120 in Mascouche, Que.
