The Gibsons Devlins bantam boys baseball team moved to a perfect 9-0 with a pair of impressive wins at home last Saturday.

Gibsons blasted the Richmond Braves 10-0 in game one of a double header at Ryan Dempster Field paced by a balanced attack, strong pitching and solid defence. Sebastian Strange hit a huge home run, which highlighted the offensive attack.

In game two, Gibsons picked up an entertaining 9-7 win over the Richmond Red Sox.

Gibsons broke a 2-2 tie with a pair of runs in the fourth and padded their lead with two more in the fifth to take a seemingly comfortable 6-2 lead into the sixth, but Richmond's bats came alive, with five runs to take a 7-6 lead. But Gibsons battled back, scoring three runs in their half of the inning and shut the Red Sox down in the seventh to secure the win.

Cosme Hlatky had a great game with a stand-up triple that he rocked to centre field. He also threw out three runners trying to steal.

Josh Bozak picked up the save with two strikeouts in the seventh inning.

"The first game was a lot like all our games so far, good clean hits, strong defence and a great team effort," said coach Jennifer Peers. "We're lucky in that we have nine or 10 players who can pitch, so I can switch up the line-up and make sure everyone gets a chance to play. We're playing a single 'A' house division and it's more a development division, so you try to get everyone into the line-up as much as you can."

Gibsons has been dominant as their 9-0 record would suggest with a lot of their games ending early due to the mercy rule.
