The spectacular weekend weather was a good omen for the Gibsons Blue bantam baseball team.
After a convincing win on Saturday and a competitive, semifinal on Sunday against the Gibsons Grey squad, the Blue finished the season in first place after a tight final against the Burnaby Bulldogs. The momentum shifted back and forth during the game, but in the end Gibsons prevailed 9-7.
The three Coast teams, two from Gibsons and one from Sechelt, are among the top five in the western Lower Mainland bantam interlock league.
Throughout the league games, coaches Gord Bradwell, Dave Strom and David Barnum noted exceptional teamwork and a supportive atmosphere in the dugout. All players contributed, making key plays in those clutch moments. The parent support has been outstanding. Of note have been Glenn Hanchar and Colleen Ismail contributing throughout the season.
