The Fusion kept their undefeated streak alive with a 4-1 win over the Pigs.
In the second half the Pigs dug in and kept the league leaders to a draw, as 'The Energizer Ginny' Blattler and Teagan Crozier brought force to bear on Fusion's keeper Hannah Josephson. The Pigs got their goal from speedy fullback Janice Hendrickson, who found her fourth gear on defence. Fusion got a pair of goals from Amy Robinson and singles from Amy Branding and Kendra 'Kenny G' Graham.
The Mayhem kept a point back of the frontrunners with a 4-1 win over the Blazers. TJ Stewart, Trina Geisbrecht and Jazmine Gettys scored for Mayhem, with Blazers' goal from Avril Stockton.
The Wolves posted a 6-3 win over the Selects and got scoring from Ryan Paul, Junior Dixon, Trent Dixon, Sean Dixon and Rick Timothy with two. For the Selects it was usual suspects Ken Campbell with two and Eric Pinfold.
Halfmoon Bay and the Chiefs had a great back-and-forth battle at Ted Dixon. Every time the Chiefs pulled ahead, HMB tied it up. Then with 10 minutes left to play, HMB pulled ahead and the final whistled sounded for the win.
HMB's defensive line continues to have a big role in the team's success. Trying to weave through big fullbacks like Todd Creed and Keith Donkersloot en route to the HMB net is like trying to see Lillooet over the Coast Mountains. Chiefs strikes came from Keith Johnson, 'Magic' Matty Joe and Steve Peel, while HMB got two from Ryan Daley. John 'Johnny Teabag' Rogers also punted in a couple of chippy goalmouth scrambles, but they all count.
Gibsons United spent almost as much time travelling as they did playing, in their 2-2 tie with Pender. The smaller Pender pitch favoured the Bananas' gorilla tactics, but Dave Nanson and Neville Judd managed to break out and hit a couple of 20-yarders into the back mesh, which looked a lot like a drying gillnet. For Pender, the goals came from Rod Kammerle and Richard Massullo.
