Dempster wins again

Gibsons Ryan Dempster continued his impressive second half winning his third straight contest Aug. 11 at the Chicago Cubs edged the Washington Nationals 4-3.

Dempster, now 10-8 on the season, gave up a first inning home run, but was perfect after that going seven innings allowing only three hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

Dempster looked like he would get a no decision after leaving after seven innings, but Aramis Ramierz hit a two-run home run and Carlos Pena smacked a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh to give the Cubs a 4-1 lead and the bullpen held on the rest of the way.

On Tuesday night, Dempster was poised for his fourth straight win pitching seven strong innings against the Houston Astros leaving with a 4-2 lead. He allowed only three hits and struck out seven.

The Cubs tacked another run on in the eighth, but closer Carlos Marmol imploaded in the ninth loading the bases with one out, then gave up a walk-off grand slam as the Cubs lost 6-5.
