Flyers end Hitmen winning streak

The Flyers tripped up the Midway Power/Grasshopper Pub Hitmen 5-3 to end the Hitmen's seven-game unbeaten streak.

Taylor Watters led the Flyers' attack with a pair of goals and one assist, and Todd Creed scored twice and added a helper. Cody Upson scored the other goal. Callum Vaughn also added two assists.

Blair Patterson, Colin Large and Scott McLeod replied for the Hitmen.

On Tuesday night, the Roberts Creek Rangers leap-frogged the Flyers to move back into third place as the Rangers beat the Hitmen 5-2.

Shane Huolt had a huge night for the Rangers, scoring the first three goals of the game. Keith Clegg and Tom Bailey scored the other goals. Bik Byr scored both goals for the Hitmen.

In the other Tuesday night game, the Inlet Raiders beat the Flyers 5-1.

John McLeod, Ian Bunbury, Jarred Rutley, Dave McLennan and Tristan Tuplin scored for the Raiders. Tuplin and McLeod also added assists for two point nights. Watters scored the lone goal for the Flyers.

In other hockey news, the Sechelt Stars, who play in the men's B-division, played host to the Powell River Stingers in an exhibition game last Saturday night.

The Stars won the game 3-1 as Bob Knight, John Geoffrion and Ray Gravell scored the goals. John Clement, Mike Mayo and Geoffrion were credited with the assists.

Chris Brown scored the lone goal for Powell River.

"It was a great game and a lot of fun," said Don Green from the Stars. "You always get a little more revved up for teams you don't play on a regular basis. The game could have gone either way. I'd like to thank the Stingers for making the trip down."
