The U14 Storm Girls have had a stellar start to their season. Last weekend marked the end of the first part of their season where teams now get retiered based on their scores and rankings. The girls are sitting in first place after their first seven games with six wins, and one tie game. It has been amazing continuing to watch these girls grow as a team and develop their skills.

Last weekend’s game was a testament to that. At half time, when the girls were up 5-0, they mixed it up a bit to try to work on honing their skills. Our fearless goalie, Hilary August, was still getting over an injury to her wrist, so Alice Clements and Kaliyana Denham-Rohlicek each stepped up to take a turn in net, letting in only one goal in the whole game. Hilary still shone with her defensive skills on the field.

Players like Cassie Gibb, who normally plays sweeper, took a turn up front in the second half, only to amaze the crowd with her fine control of the ball, popping one in within the first minute of play. This game also allowed them to work on their passing and taking to heart the skills their coaches have been working on with them all season thus far.

If you’re looking for some excitement this weekend, come out and watch the girls’ first Cup Game on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
at Cliff Gilker Park. It promises to be an exciting match as they are playing the second place team in the division, but the girls have not played each other yet this season. Go Storm, Go!
