The Sunshine Coast Falcons and Vancouver Marpole Blue Aces locked up in a highly entertaining cup match in the U13 rep boys division last weekend in Sechelt.
The Falcons led throughout, but the Blue Aces managed to pull ahead at the end for a 5-4 win. Brock Flatt scored twice for the Falcons with Simeon Campbell and Nathan Burnham adding singles.
Next game for the Falcons is at Kinnikinnick Field this Saturday, Nov. 2, at 1:30 p.m.
U18 boys
A late goal by Josh Diamond ensured a 2-1 victory for the U18 Spartans in cup play last weekend.
After a recent 4-4 tie in Gold league play versus the West Vancouver Spuraways, the Spartans knew a cup match against the same opponents would likely be close. And so it proved to be for most of this encounter at Ambleside turf field in West Vancouver.
Raven di Pietro opened the scoring for the visitors after a terrific through ball from Ryan Judd. The Spuraways soon levelled and went in search of the winner. The Sunshine Coast boys sustained all kinds of pressure, but goalie Haden Bush was solid in net.
With 10 minutes remaining, Ryan Judd stepped up to score from a 20-yard free-kick. But celebrations were cut short when the referee disallowed the goal for interference in the defensive wall. With time winding down and extra time looming, Bryn Davies slotted a pass across the top of the penalty area, and Josh Diamond held his nerve to slot home with his left foot.
Coaches Sean Whalen and Bob Hoy take their boys on the road again this weekend, as the Spartans take on North Vancouver Fury.
House League
It was another fantastic week on the pitch for the Sunshine Coast Youth Soccer Association's House League teams.
In U10 girls, Navy hosted the Halfmoon Bay Orange Crushes, with Halfmoon Bay winning the contest.
Navy's Peyton Lavery and Kaliyana Denham-Rohlicek managed to shake the net for the home team while Sharlene Johnson, Izabella Biddulph and the little powerhouse Gracey Hemstreet rung the bell for the Orange Crushes. Great goaltending from Sarah Kraus and Kayla Evanson for Navy and Julia Molina for Halfmoon Bay.
U15 boys
It was a nice sunny day for soccer and the fans enjoyed the intense game between Blue Thunder and the Highlighters.
Blue Thunder came out strong, scoring two early goals. The Highlighters responded with a goal from Payton Coyle.
Blue Thunder worked well as a team with their seasoned players such as Dylan Broeke and Aiden Beley helping support the newer recruits. Both players were solid on defence and pushed hard on offence. Caio Machado played well in mid-field and nearly scored a number of times.
Fergus Shields displayed some fancy footwork and made some great blocks. He had a great defensive and offensive game, which earned him game MVP for Blue Thunder.
Sam Knight showed great turn of speed and made a number of good plays for Highlighters. Skyler Powell and Jeronimo Perez Solomon made some great defensive plays and solid passes as well.
The goaltenders for both sides really saved the day for their teams. Mikaly Newton for Blue Thunder and Marvin Via for Highlighters made multiple saves. They also both nearly scored a number of times when they were playing mid and forward positions.
The Highlighters scored again just before the final whistle, making the final score 4-2 for Blue Thunder.
