The Elphi bantam boys captured their first mountain bike championship at the North Shore finals held last Wednesday (May 13) in North Vancouver.

The team of Benruze Perry, Eddie Mernett, Jake Gjerdalen, Fraser McDicken, Chris Wrinch, Jason Teitge, Henry Telfer and Dean Ewert finished with a total of 1,414 points, beating out Argyle that finished second with 1,388 points.

Elphi's senior boys team finished second behind Howe Sound Secondary School from Squamish, while the Chatelech bantam/juvenile girls team finished fourth overall.

In top individual results, Jarrett Porter from Chat finished third overall in bantam boys, Jessica Marquis from Chat was second in junior girls and Sebastian Sleep from Elphi was first in senior boys.

The provincial finals are this weekend in Valemount, but due to a B.C. Cup race, none of the riders from Elphi will be attending. Chat will have a solid group of riders going with Jessica, Louis Dillon, Jonas Lomax and Emily Duncan-Hansen trying to return to the Coast with provincial honours.

"Both Jessica and Louis are legitimate contenders for the provincial title in their categories," said Chat coach Quinn Campbell.
