Elphi and Chat girls go at it again

High School Soccer

The Elphinstone and Chatelech girls soccer teams after a great game last week.

It was time again for the two girls’ high school soccer teams from the Coast to challenge each other, a rematch from last year’s high energy game at Elphinstone. This year the venue was the upper pitch at Chatelech on a beautiful sunny day with both teams looking ready for a great game with a little healthy rivalry thrown in for good measure. The teams were both mixed grades and ages, girls from the local house/spring league, the local rep teams and some girls who play metro soccer in the city too. All in all, some wicked talent, passion and skill levels were on display to make this a truly fantastic match.

The first half was a battle of the schools for sure, with each team still figuring out their own teams and at the same time assessing the other team, all at full speed. The second half saw Elphi nudge ahead of Chat and stay there for the remainder of the game. Hopefully this rematch will set the stage for another game or two next year, because these girls are amazingly fast, committed and clearly showed a love for the beautiful game.

Two days after the game, the Elphinstone team went into the city to challenge a North Vancouver high school for a spot in the Lower Mainland school championships. It turned out to be a really close game with only one goal deciding that our girls will regroup, practise more together and challenge them again next year. The level of soccer skill on the Coast is truly inspiring.
