The Elphi golf team is off to the AA zone finals following a second-place showing at the division playoffs.

Elphi finished with a score of 333, while St. Thomas Aquinas finished first with a score of 316 in the division playoff round played at the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club on Monday.

Elphi's scores included Dylan Cappadocia 76, Coty Haikonen 80, Andrew Husband 87, Kris Liddicoat 90 and Dustin Christmas 100. Teams counted the top four of the five team members' scores.

Collingwood finished in third spot with a score of 336.

STA and Elphi now advance to the Lower Mainland zone championships, which will take place May 18 at McLeery and May 19 at Langara.

"We're thrilled with the result," said coach Jim Pringle. "Everyone came out and played extremely well. I think all the players have really developed their games throughout the season. I'm thrilled for them. It's not me out there playing, it's the kids. They've shown the commitment this year and it's paid off."

Elphi resurrected its golf team this season after not fielding a team for two years. The squad finished with a record of 3-2 in league play in the AA Mike Weir Division in the North Shore Secondary Schools' Athletic Association (NSSSAA).

On the other side of the scorecard, the golf season is over for Chat.

Chat finished with a record of 3-4 in league play in the AAA Tiger Woods division and played the first round of the playoffs on Wednesday.

Chat defeated Sentinel at the event in Northlands, but didn't have enough points to finish in the top two, which brought an end to their season.

"Northlands is a very tough course," said coach Dean Totten. "The kids played better than expected and we had a chance to advance with a solid back nine, but that didn't happen. We ended up third out of four teams."

Rockridge, West Vancouver, Handsworth and Windsor all advance to the AAA semifinals with the top two teams advancing to the B.C. championships.

"We've got a good, young, promising team," Totten said. "It was a decent year for a young team. I think the kids need some more time to develop, but the future is bright."
