Sunshine Coast Dragons Abreast put down their paddles and laced up their running shoes for another great fundraising cause recently.
On Sunday, Oct. 4, Dragons Abreast, consisting of paddlers, family members and friends, took part in the 18th annual Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure in Vancouver.
The sun was shining as the participants gathered - an estimated 10,000-strong - who had signed up to run, walk and stroll the five-kilometre course.
"A festive atmosphere was everywhere - pink being the colour of the day. There was music to keep us moving, food to energize us and a wonderful feeling of being connected to our many sisters living with breast cancer," said Dragons Abreast team captain Carol Standfield.
"Our team raised over $2,200, and our thanks go to all of you who have donated to us online and in person, as well as contributing $495 to the silent auction at the Pender Final Fling. We really appreciate your support as we continue to raise awareness of breast cancer."
In Vancouver, the CIBC Run for the Cure raised more than $1.5 million for breast cancer research. Across Canada about 170,000 people took part and raised an incredible $26.5 million.
