Another season of drag racing gets underway on May 26 and 27 at the Sechelt Airport with the Sunshine Coast Drag Racing Association (SCDRA) hosting the Dennis Munson Memorial Drag Race.
The SCDRA will honour Dennis Munson, a longtime member, friend and contributor to the success of the club. Munson hadn’t been active in the club for several years due to illness but was always keen to lend his heavy equipment for the preparation of each event. He passed away in February of cancer.
Trophies and cash prizes will be available for all race classes: Motorcycle, Street Machine, Super Street, Street Rod and Hot Rod. There will also be awards for the driver with the best reaction time, the car with fastest ET in eliminations and the best burnout of the day.
Awards presentations will be immediately following the races. The Ted Meldrum Memorial Award will be presented to a Sunshine Coast high school student who demonstrates a mechanical aptitude, dedication to motorsport, volunteers in the community and is supportive of school programs. Previous winners include: Robert Rhodes (Elphinstone), Matthew Bentley (Elphinstone), Ryan Mcdonald (Pender), Jordan Kammerle (Pender), Garrett Leblanc (Chatelech), Tyler Muryn (Chatelech) and Eric Ripley Horne (Elphinstone).
