The Gibsons Dodgers peewee all-star team continued their march towards the provincials with two games last week.

On July 20, the Dodgers hosted the Burnaby Braves at Brothers Park. The young Burnaby team battled hard and held an early 4-1 lead, using patience at the plate to gain walks and get on base. The Dodgers pitchers struggled with their control early on, but Josh Mowbray came on to pitch in the third inning to settle things down and then combined with Jarred Bothwell and Terrance Josephson to give up only one run on three hits over the final five innings. As for the Gibsons offence, it was once again powered by clutch hits, this time by Tim Walters and Matt Olsen, plus another deep home run by Logan Nattall as the Dodgers came back for a 9-5 win.

On Saturday, July 23, the Dodgers travelled to face the second place Aldergrove Braves.

Putting together a terrific all-round game, Gibsons dominated from the first pitch. Logan pitched an 11 strikeout no-hitter over 5 2/3 innings, then James Bradwell induced a ground ball out to end the game and a combined six inning no-hitter for the two pitchers. Aldergrove scored their only two runs on walks and stolen bases as any ball hit was gobbled up by an aggressive Dodgers defence.

The offence was led by Luke Petreny who went four for four with a double, Jordan Kammerle went three for four with two doubles, and multiple hit games by Callum Fallis and Ryan Babor. The complete team effort resulted in a 13-2 win for Gibsons who now sit alone in first place in the Lower Mainland Division with a 6-0 record.

Although a place at the provincial championship has been secured with the six wins, the Dodgers still have three games remaining on their league schedule and will use those games to try to secure the top seed at the tournament. The Peewee A Provincials will be held in Burnaby at Kensington Park Aug. 4 to 7.
