Jesse Dill of Roberts Creek, a Gibsons Minor Ball Association alumni, was a member of the undefeated pitching staff of the Victoria Mavericks who took the trophy at the senior men's baseball provincial tournament in Kelowna on Aug. 1.

The Mavericks won five straight games in this highly competitive top amateur baseball tournament.

The team was never once behind in any game, allowing only five runs in the whole tournament.

In their second game, the Mavericks defeated the 2010 National Champions, the Burnaby Bulldogs, in a 3-1 contest.

In game four, Dill took the mound against the Coquitlam Angels, undefeated at that point, and took his team to a 6-2 victory.

The Mavericks clinched the championship the following day in a 1-0 contest against Coquitlam.

Maverick player Kyle Pocket, an alumnus of the North Shore Twins, was named the tournament MVP for his outstanding offensive play.

Dill pitched for the Dalhousie University Tigers in Halifax in 2008 and 2009. He currently plays in the Mavericks league in Victoria, a six-team league that put together the all-star team for the provincials. This team will now represent B.C. in the national tournament in 2012.

Dill will throw the first pitch for the Vancouver Can-adians at Nat Bailey Stadium on Aug. 28, as an Ambass-ador for the Future is Mine Adult Burn Survivor Program of the BC Professional Firefighters' Burn Fund.
