In front of many family members and friends from the Sunshine Coast, Gibsons' Ryan Dempster improved to 7-2, helping lead the Texas Rangers to a 3-2 win over the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field.
The right-hander allowed six hits over six-plus innings, walking one and striking out eight. The Rangers bullpen held the rest of the way, preserving the win with two-plus innings of scoreless relief. With the win, the Rangers maintained their four game lead over the Oakland Athletics for the AL West division lead.
Roller Girls get first home win
The Sunshine Coast Roller Girls (SCRG) claimed their first home victory against the Haney Hooligans on Sept. 15 at the Sunshine Coast Arena in Sechelt.
The home team took the game from the first jam, and by halftime had a commanding lead.
While the jammer with the star on her helmet circles the track picking up points, claiming the victory in a bout is the result of the teamwork demonstrated by the blockers on the track. The SCRG blockers consistently built strong and effective walls and doled out big hits, preventing the opposing jammers from scoring many points.
SCRG jammers Skid-Doll, Molly Tov Cocktail, Bootie Zafa and Syn Denied picked up 200 points between them, producing the desired end result for our Sunshine Coast Girls.
The girls have been working hard all season long on their teamwork, and that hard work was displayed consistently last Saturday night. Lots of communication and support and few penalty minutes led the girls to a well-deserved victory, winning the game 207-90.
The next chance to see the SCRG in action is on Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. when they face off against Voodoo Derby Dolls from Chilliwack in Sechelt.
