Gibsons Ryan Dempster was in top form Monday night leading the Texas Rangers to a 5-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles.
After missing his scheduled start against the Toronto Blue Jays last Saturday in Toronto due to what the Rangers called personal reasons, (many media outlets said it was due to passport issues), Dempster pitched eight innings Monday night, his longest outing in more than two months. It was also his best start since he was traded to Texas from the Chicago Clubs at the July trade deadline.
Dempster (2-1 in Texas and 7-6 overall), retired the last 11 batters he faced and allowed one run on four hits.
In his 16 starts for the Cubs before the trade, Dempster had a 2.25 ERA and pitched eight innings twice. The last time was June 10 at Minnesota.
After giving up eight runs twice, Dempster had an 8.31 ERA in his first three starts for Texas.
