Riding a three-game winning streak, including a 4-0 win over the Boston Red Sox last Friday afternoon at Wrigley Field, the Chicago Cubs placed pitcher Ryan Dempster on the disabled list on Monday with right lat tightness.
It's the second time the right-hander from Gibsons has been placed on the DL this season.
Dempster (3-3, 2.11 ERA) has been the subject of trade rumours for weeks now. He has won his past three starts after going 18 games dating back to August of last year without a win. In the three wins he's only allowed 11 hits and three walks in 22 scoreless innings, enhancing his value to a playoff bound team, which Chicago is not. The Major League trade deadline is July 31.
Randy Wells will take Dempster's spot in the Cubs' rotation.
