Dempster drops to 2-4

Run support continues to plague Gibsons' Ryan Dempster and the Chicago Cubs.

Run support continues to plague Gibsons' Ryan Dempster and the Chicago Cubs.

Dempster had another strong outing pitching seven innings on Saturday, allowing three runs on four hits with nine strikeouts and five walks, but received no run support as the Cubs lost 4-3 to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Cubs have lost seven straight against the Pirates dating to last season, and nine of their last 11 overall. Dempster has lost his last three starts to drop to 2-4 on the season.

Dempster struggled to find the strike zone in the first inning, issuing consecutive walks to Aki Iwamura and Andy LaRoche to open the game and the Pirates scored three in the inning to go up 3-0.

"When you walk the first two guys it makes the inning a whole lot tougher," Dempster said in an interview on Yahoosports.com.
