Powell River hosts an annual men’s ice hockey tournament at the end of the hockey season. This year the Gibsons Mark’s Cutters men’s team represented the lower Sunshine Coast to compete against 15 other teams from Vancouver Island, Vancouver and the Powell River region.

The Cutters played four round-robin matches, finishing with a 3-1 record to qualify for the finals on Sunday, March 31.

The Cutters faced the fast and well-skilled Powell River Taws in the final to find themselves down 5-2 going into the third period. In the end, the Cutters managed to fight back to 5-4 before losing to the Taws 6-4 with and empty net goal.

The Cutters will be returning to Powell River next year to try for the win again.

Many thanks to Raymond Dube at Powell Recreation for hosting a great tournament.

The hockey season isn’t quite over on the lower Sunshine Coast. All six men’s teams including the Cutters are in the middle of the playoffs with the finals scheduled for April 13 in Sechelt.
