An exciting season of men’s hockey came to a thrilling end last weekend as the top four teams faced off in the playoff finals at the Sunshine Coast Arena in Sechelt. The top-seeded Custom Hawks faced off against the Kings in an entertaining final that saw both teams deadlocked at 0-0 heading into the third period. After both teams scored to make it 1-1, the Hawks scored late in the third to take top honours and take first place with a 2-1 victory.
In the consolation final for third place, the Bruins played the Gibsons Marks Cutters. The Cutters came out to an early 4-1 lead in the first period. In the second period the Bruins were able to narrow the score to 6-3. Strong goaltending by Cutters goaltender Ryley Dempster sealed the victory with the Gibsons Marks Cutters winning by a score of 10-4.
All men’s teams are heading into a well-deserved summer break, but hockey is far from over on the Sunshine Coast. The Hitmen Hockey Club is hosting the fourth annual Seven-a-Side Tournament at the Sunshine Coast Arena from April 20 to 22. Come out and watch the exciting action as 16 teams battle for the top prize.
