The Gibsons Peewee Crusherz started their tournament play in grand fashion, posting a perfect 6-0 record on the May 13 weekend in Cloverdale.
Gibsons, coached by Cheryl Gillard and LauraEwert and sponsored by Sunshine Coast Credit Union and Ortho Metzner, had a slow start in its first game, but pulled out the win. Despite the weather conditions, Gibsons won all three games the first day, with outstanding defence and timely hitting.
The Crusherz were also dominant on the mound as Leah Ewert pitched two strong games, dashing any opposing hopes for a win.Carly Gillard pitched games three through five and allowed only one run and one walk, earning a pair of shutouts.
MVP awards, chosen by the opposing teams, were awarded to Leah, Carly, catcher Hannah Smith and Veronica Evans, who played first base.
On Sunday, May 15, the weather wasn't much better, but Gibsons came out to play ball and won their first game11-0, with Carly earning this win. This placedthe Crusherz first in their pool for the playoff round.

Gibsons then took on the Sardis Slammerz for the title, a team Gibsons beat earlier in the tournament 9-1. But the final was much closer, with Sardis giving Gibsons all they could handle in the Crusherz 5-3 win.
Gibsons next tournament is at the beginning of June.
In anticipation of making it to the provincials later in the year, the Crusherz are going to be fundraising in the coming weeks.
This Saturday, the team will hold a bottle drive. Donations can be dropped off at Gibsons Elementary School parking lot between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
On June 9, the team will hold a hit-a-thon and will be out in the community soon seeking sponsorships.
A car wash fundraiser will also be held on June 18 at Elphinstone Secondary.
