The Squirt Division Gibsons Crusherz put in a dominating performance in winning a tournament in Cloverdale recently.
Gibsons went 3-1 in the round robin on the strength of stellar pitching efforts by Hannah Smith, Carly Gillard and Leah Ewert. Gibsons was able to mercy two of the four games, placing them second in the round robin and an automatic entrance into the semi-finals.
Gibsons had to face a team in the semi's they already lost to, and they managed to seal the game when Stephanie Slingerland hit a grand slam off the fastest pitcher in the tournament, resulting in Gibsons winning 10-4.
Gibsons then moved on to the final against the South Surrey/White Rock Dogz, who hadn't lost a game all tournament.
Gibsons managed to chip away each inning scoring runs, while pitching by Hannah and Leah held them at bay, allowing Gibsons to win 13-2, mercying the Dogz at the end of four innings. There were a lot of outstanding plays and firsts for every girl at this tournament. All the girls should be proud of their performance and achievements.
