The world famous travellers known as the Harlem Crowns are coming to Gibsons next Saturday to challenge the Elphi Cougars alumni squad.
The game is set for 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, at Elphi gym. The Cougars will feature alumni and current staff members. Tickets are $7 in advance, available at Sunnycrest Mall and IGA in Gibsons today (Oct. 21) from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets will also be available at the school next week and will be available at the door next Saturday for $8.
Proceeds from this event will go toward the purchase of new uniforms for the Cougar basketball teams.
The Crowns began their existence in the mid-50s when former Harlem Globetrotter Chico Burrell formulated a team composed of highly talented basketball players.
Members of the Crowns are chosen for their sportsmanship as well as their ability to play above average basketball. At the beginning of each season, approximately two weeks in October, an organized training camp is held in a designated Northern California city. Candidates and possible new additions are brought in from all over the U.S.
All players must have former college basketball experience, have good character and the ability to get along with others and have basketball ability - the potential to be a showman and a knack for comic improvisation.
There is never a dull moment at a Crowns game, so be sure to get your tickets early and take in the action next Saturday.
