The Gibsons CohoKings men's fast pitch team came home with mixed results following a seven-team tournament June 11 and 12 in Kitsilano.
Gibsons tied the Coquitlam Angels 2-2, lost to the Vancouver Hawks 7-1 and 6-3 to the Surrey Rebels, and closed out the tournament just missing the playoffs after a 9-1 win over The Farm from Chilliwack.
Mitch Rainer at third, Andrew Baron at second and Kevan Penonzek at shortstop all had strong weekends with some great defence to help out the pitching staff. Steven Stevenson also had a strong weekend with a great glove at first, and Tim Scarr is turning into a fine catcher. He shared duties with Aaron Hately.
The outfield of Randy Tulk, Ross Baron and Cale Fraser made some nice plays, and pitcher Mike Sopow, Gibsons go-to-guy, was helped out by Rick Peers. Both pitched well and held Gibsons in the games.
Up next for the CohoKings is a doubleheader on Bowen Island next Saturday, June 25.
The annual CohoKings tournament is slated for July 16 to 17 in Sechelt this year and the Sunshine Coast Men's Fastpitch League starts play on July 4 with six teams set to battle it out this year for Coast bragging rights.
