Volleyball BC and the town of Parksville hosted the U13/U15 /U17 beach volleyball provincial tournament on Aug. 10 and 11.
Goldney Hourigan and Georgie Aleong teamed up and won a bronze place finish in the U13 age group, placing third in B.C. after successfully winning the final tiebreaker set 15-13 Sunday afternoon.
Perry wins Summer Games bronze
Gibsons Brandy Perry, who now lives in Vancouver, is coming home from the Canada Summer Games with a bronze medal.
Perry captured third place in the women's individual up to 60kg wrestling competition at the Games, which wrapped up this weekend in Sherbrooke, Que.
Another no decision for Dempster
Gibsons Ryan Dempster remains at 6-8 on the season after his third straight no decision Tuesday night against Toronto.
The Boston Red Sox right-hander was in line for the win, pitching seven innings of four-hit, one-run ball against the Blue Jays leaving with a 2-1 lead, but the bullpen blew the lead only to see the offence pick back up as the Red Sox won 4-2 in 11 innings.
In his previous two starts, Aug. 7 against Houston, he went six innings, allowing five runs on seven hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. He left trailing 5-2, but the offence bailed him out, coming back in the late innings to win 7-5.
On July 31, he pitched six innings against the Seattle Mariners, allowing seven runs on nine hits with five walks and six strikeouts. He left trailing 7-2, but his offence bailed him out with six runs in the ninth inning for an 8-7 Boston win.
