Coast teams struggle to get in games

The wet spring weather that has continued into May has made playing baseball very difficult this season.

The bantam Maycon team won their double header against a team from Tswwassen on the May 14 weekend. They also lost a tight game against Sechelt by a single run.

On Sunday, May 15, both the midget Coastal Tires and the bantam Devlins were rained out. However, the Sechelt Athletics were able to complete a double header against a team from Tswwassen at Ryan Dempster Field, winning both games by scores of 13-6 and 5-3.

On Thursday, May 12, the Sechelt and Gibsons midget teams engaged in their second epic match up in two weeks. On April 28 the result after seven innings was a 3-3 tie, and the game played last Thursday solved nothing either as the teams left the field once again deadlocked at 6-6. The Gibsons boys were outplayed, but strong relief pitching by Chris Hanchar and Cosme Hlatky shut down the Athletics over the last four innings.

In North Delta on Sunday, May 8, the Gibsons' midgets went up against the White Sox from White Rock and won two lopsided games.

The pitching of Malcolm Leinberger and Tayler Hanchar along with the hitting of Malcolm and Tommy Nesbitt highlighted the double header for the local boys.
