Coast skaters bring home gold

Sunshine Coast figure skaters have come home with outstanding results from recent competitions. Kai-Jing Leong won gold and Alison Camenisch won bronze in ladies' free skate at the Vancouver Skating Club's Valentine's Day Competition.

Kai-Jing Leong won gold and Alison Camenisch won bronze in ladies' free skate at the Vancouver Skating Club's Valentine's Day Competition.

Camenisch also won gold in Improvisation and silver in Interpretive. Mallory Slack travelled to Penticton the same weekend to compete in the Ogopogo Competition, placing eighth in preliminary free skate. Last weekend the Sunshine Coast Skating Club returned from the North Shore International Competition, competing against skaters from B.C. and Washington.

Once again Leong placed first in preliminary free skate, 11 & under, while Slack placed seventh. Michael Jensen captured gold in junior bronze free skate, while Camenisch placed seventh in the same category. Nine year-old Alissa Harkin, competing for the first time, placed ninth in elementary ladies free skate. The Sunshine Coast Skating Club is busy preparing for their upcoming ice show Rockin' Thru the Ages on Sunday, April 4.

Shows are at 1 and 3 p.m. at the Sunshine Coast Arena. Tickets available in advance at Talewind Books in Sechelt and Coast Books in Gibsons.

Guest skater is Eriq Lyons, a senior men's national competitor, who will be performing as well. Come out and enjoy the talent of these local skaters.
