Some choose water, others down sports drinks but a new four-race running series by PaceSetter Athletics urges beer as the choice post-race beverage.
On June 17, the Sunshine Coast Brewery Run Series kicked off with 36 racers gunning for gold at the Persephone 5K, which started at the beer farm and wound through nearby trails and roads. Afterwards, participants downed a beer from Persephone, which is included in the registration fee.
Rachel McKenzie, 23, of Roberts Creek came in first with a time of 20:30, with Sechelt’s Darren Causon, 45, placing second with a time of 20:37. Jamie Leveque, 47, also from Sechelt, ran the race in 21:13 to take home third place. The winners also took home refillable growlers.
The next race in the Brewery Run Series is the Canada Day 10.1K at The 101. Participants are encouraged to dress in red and white as they race through a mix of road and trails in upper Gibsons with a finish at Mahan Road. Post-race adult sports drinks will be available at the 101 Brewhouse and Distillery.
