Several racers entered the Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race while a huge contingent were at the second B.C. Cup mountain bike event of the season at the Bear Mountain Challenge in Mission.

Again, the Coast was well represented with more than 15 riders at the event. It was a wet weekend for all, but the riders survived the wet and muddy cross-country and downhill courses with no major injuries and only a few damaged components.

The cross-country race Saturday started with a long steep climb. Once the climb was over it was time for the technical downhill portion complete with mud, drops and rocks. All the local riders raced hard finishing in the top 10.

Several were on the podium including Katherine Short, first in U15 girls; Sean Stanhope, first in U15 boys; Micayla Gatto, third in junior expert women; Chris Bates, first in junior men; and Matt Green, third in pro/elite men.

Sunday's downhill was a test of skill and guts. The course was wet and muddy with nine new jumps/drops challenging the most seasoned riders. Again Coast racers were well represented. Those called to the podium included Short and Gatto, who both finished first. Terry Williams had a clean ride placing first in junior sport men. Riley Percheson had his best B.C. cup finish, placing third in U17 sport, and Scott Doucette was third in the U15 hard tail boys.

A complete list of race results can be found in the sports ticker on page C4.

This weekend, several Coast riders head to Squamish for the Test of Metal event, a grueling 67 km torture test.

Later in the month, riders head to Invermere for the third B.C. Cup event.
