Five players from Gibsons helped the Rossinis Jazz fastball team from Vancouver to the senior C provincial championship last weekend at Softball City in Surrey.

The squad was made up of a mix of players from Vancouver, Vernon, Squamish and the Sunshine Coast with Coast players Brett Trefry, Kevan Penonzek, Glenn Dempster, Mike Sopow and Randy Tulk.

Penonzek, Trefry and Dempster play for Rossinis out of Connaught Park in Vancouver during the regular season.

Tulk made a spectacular diving catch in game one against Strawberry Vale from Sooke, which resulted in an ending double play as well as a number of key hits, including two triples.

Trefry was an absolute standout at shortstop, wowing the crowd on numerous occasions and hitting one of only two home runs scored by the team on the weekend.

Rossinis went 5-0, beating the Victoria Thunder 3-2 in a hard-fought final with Jason Wright of Squamish picking up the win.

This was the first provincial gold medal for the Coast players.

In Sunshine Coast men's league action, Gilligan's Pub and Lon's Gun Show played to a 7-7 tie on July 3.

Al Holt pitched a complete game for Gilligan's while Eion Ross started for the Gun Show with Ken Fujimori taking the hill in the third inning.

Gilligan's was up 7-2 in the seventh when Gun Show rallied for five runs keyed by a three-run shot by Steve Stevenson.

In the other game last Wednesday, the Lighthouse/IGA Brewers beat Custom Carpet 17-7.

On Friday, July 5, RJS Blue Jays edged Gun Show 10-8.

Nate De Boer saw his first appearance to the mound for the Gun Show come up a little short as the Blue Jays picked up their first win of the season. Steve Partridge pitched a complete game for RJS.

In Friday's other contest, the Pirates picked up a 13-4 win over Custom Carpet.

It was another solid outing on the mound for Terry Williams aided by Bailey Karaloff and Dylan King, who each scored three runs.

On Monday night, RJS picked up win number two as they blasted Gilligan's 18-3. Cody Robinson and Kyle August each hit home runs for the Blue Jays.

In the other game, Gun Show beat the Pirates 14-6.

Drew Johnson hit a three-run shot for the Pirates and Greg Kelly made a stellar diving stab at third.

Ross went seven for eight for the Gun Show, and Lonnie Allen continued to swing a hot bat hitting a double to knock in a couple of runs.
