It could be just a taste of what’s to come.
The Sunshine Coast Junior Hockey Society (SCJHS) is hosting the Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL) in two regular season games on Friday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 22 at 4:15 p.m.
The Chilliwack Jets will face off against the North Vancouver Wolf Pack in what should be two exciting matches between the Lower Mainland rivals.
“The PJHL is excited to come to the Sunshine Coast to show off our great brand of junior hockey,” League Commissioner Trevor Alto says. “We’ve been really impressed with what we’ve heard from the SCJHS to date and the players can’t wait to play at the Gibsons and Area Community Centre!”
“In our effort to land a junior hockey franchise, this is a great opportunity for the PJHL to see what the Sunshine Coast has to offer and for our local hockey fans to see live PJHL game action,” says society spokesperson Brenda Rowe. She added that “market research has shown there is an appetite to have our own team on the Sunshine Coast and this will give fans a chance to buy tickets and show their support. We also have sponsorship opportunities for local businesses to help with the costs of hosting this event.”
The SCJHS has been working behind the scenes to attract interest from investors to get on board and make junior hockey on the Coast a permanent offering. We’ve prepared some extensive information about what our vision is and what it will take to make it happen.
This game series will show us and the PJHL if the Sunshine Coast can support a team.
