Games were close and hotly contested last weekend in the adult soccer leagues.

In women's action, The Source tied Gibsons Pigs 1-1 as Jane Van Klinken sent a ball bouncing off a Pigs' player before clinking the post to score for Source, while relentless Ginny Blattler scored from the left side, after being asked to shift over from the right side of the pitch, to give the grass a chance to regenerate.

Marshall Mayhem went up three against rival Blazers on two strikes from Sammi Dixon and a single from Trina 'Mother Goose' Geisbrecht, while Syd-the-Kid Celli stood on her head in net. The second half saw a Phoenix-like rise from the Blazers, as Ashley Taylor scored twice, and then with the precision of a highway-traffic radar gun, bent one in from her corner kick.

In men's action, Coast Progressive United (CPU) and Ridgepoint tied 2-2 with Mike Husband hitting the net twice for Ridgepoint, and Eoin Walker and Fumi Takahashi scoring for CPU. The Black and Yellow swarmed the CPU net late in the match, but keeper Jeff Maisonette and the goal post kept Husband from his hat trick.

Sita FC continued its winning ways with a 5-2 win over the Sechelt Chiefs.

Sita's Chris 'Mad-dog' Motlock had his defensive chain unleashed and tore up field to score, leaving Eric 'Father Time' Benz to see to the backline duties as he put in a full 90 minutes, while Ken 'Pocket Deuces' Campbell put four in the net.

Like a Wayne Gretzky rookie card, Neville Judd continues toget betterwith age and hit the net for two, while rallying Gibsons Pigs United with the authority only an English accent can muster. Halfmoon Bay evened the score with a bobbing and weaving run from Jesse Morantz, who thenlaid one off to Greg Stinson, who bulldozed his way up the middle for the second. Keepers George Cutherbertson and Rich 'Nyet-Goals' Getzkow both stepped lively to keep the final score tied 2-2.

First place Pender Harbour Bananas faced their top contender, and usually outstanding keeper Al Stewarthosted an open house, but without the sun-dried tomatoes at a waterfront estate, and gave up six, as Flyin' Ryan Paul scored three, Jeremy Budd scored two, and Thomas 'White Shadow' Bidding got a single in IFC's 6-2 win. Denis Tasic and Jim Robinson scored for the Bananas. Bananas' recent losses haven't hampered their hospitality, as another feast was set out for IFC, though Cory August mentioned some of the burgers were a bit gamey while wondering how they kept the elk off the field.
