The Chatelech Eagles senior boys picked up their second win of the season Monday night with a 64-57 win over Collingwood.
Chat has played four league games. With the win, they saw their record improve to 2-2. Overall, they are 2-3 after dropping a 49-45 decision to Mulgrave in an exhibition game Dec. 6.
The Christmas break seemed to hamper both teams' ability to score Monday as Chat led only 5-4 after the first quarter.
"There seemed to be some hoop rust or maybe everyone was still feeling some of that turkey," said Chat coach Bruce Haynes.
The teams found their legs, and their scoring touch, in the second quarter as Chat hung on to the lead throughout the quarter and led 31-24 at the half.
Collingwood came out with a hot shooting hand in the third and by the end of the quarter had cut the Eagles lead to one at 51-50. But Chat reasserted themselves in the fourth and managed to put some distance between themselves and Collingwood, eventually pulling out the seven-point win.
Devan Haynes was the top scorer for Chat with 34 points, while Jason Janis chipped in 13.
Chat doesn't play another league game until Jan. 25 when they head to Squamish to play the Howe Sound Sounders.
Chatelech is in action this weekend as the Eagles play host to their annual Open Waters tournament.
Play in the eight-team tournament begins today (Friday) with Chat tipping off against Pender Harbour at 1 p.m. Games continue all afternoon and evening at the school and continue bright and early Saturday morning. The tournament final is slated for Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. Spectators are encouraged to come watch the action.
Also competing from the Coast are the Elphin-stone Cougars. Out of town teams include Howe Sound, Rockridge, St. John's, Pemberton and West Point Grey.
