No one seems able to stop the Chatelech Eagles these days.
The junior boys won their ninth straight game Monday night using a huge 43-point second half to blow out Seycove 70-31.
The ninth win in a row eclipses the previous record set by Dave Diether's 1994/95 team. After securing a 27-18 half-time lead, Chat turned it up a notch in the second half to defeat Seycove 70-31. Connor Smith led the way with 22 points including five three-pointers, while Kurtis Fernandes enjoyed his best all-around game of the year with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Avery Payne and Connor Weatherston had 12 and 11 points respectively.
Last weekend the Eagles won their second tournament of the year, bringing home the trophy from the Pemberton Devils Annual Classic.
Chat dominated their competition by an average score of 70-35 over the four games played and crushed the Howe Sound Sounders from Squamish 85-43 in the championship final.
Connor W. was named a tourney all-star, and the foursome of Connor W., Avery, Kurtis and Connor S. were steady all tournament with consistent rebounding, sharp passing and strong outside shooting. Kyle Hamilton, Matt Clarke and Riley Van Luven all enjoyed their best games of the year.
Last week, Chat doubled up on Collingwood 64-32.
The Eagles started off slow, but turned on the offense and stepped things up defensively to shut down Collingwood in the second half.
Connor W. enjoyed a season-high 30 points, many off fine assists from Connor S. and Avery. Avery was also a scoring force with 15 points, while Kurtis had 11 points and 15 rebounds.
Also last week, Chat bested Sentinel 57-30.
Avery led the way with 22 points, while Connor S. popped in 17 including five three-pointers. Connor W. and Kurtis rounded out the scoring with eight and seven points respectively.
Chat is tied for first place in the 12-team North Shore league with a 6-1 record and are 19-3 overall.
