Julia Budd is back in the gym training and preparing for her next fight. If she is victorious, the win will set her up for a chance at a world championship.
Budd defeated Mollie Estes via submission (rear-naked choke) in round three at Invicta FC 5 on April 5 in Kansas City to improve her record to 3-0.
Up next is Ediane Gomes at Invicta FC 6 on July 13 in Kansas City with the winner facing off against the winner of the Marloes Coenen/Cris Cyborg fight for the world title.
Budd said she was very happy with her win over Estes, which was her first submission victory.
"It was nice to be able to win a fight by doing something new," she said.
After a short break and a visit with family and friends on the Coast, Budd was back in the gym already preparing for Gomes.
"I'm very excited about this fight and obviously getting in line for a title fight," Budd said. "I've learned my lesson about not looking ahead and I'm not looking past her, but this is the path that I set myself out to be on when I was 19, and I wanted to be a world champion."
Budd said Gomes is slick on the ground and is a dangerous fighter, but she feels she is up to the task.
"I feel I'm a very well-rounded fighter and no matter where the fight goes, on the ground or standing up, I'm comfortable with all aspects of MMA," Budd said.
